Women with Silver Wings: The Inspiring True Story of the Women Airforce Service Pilots of World War II

Session Description

In 1942 the United States was in trouble. Early in the war the U.S. simply did not have enough pilots for all of the flying that needed to be done - fighting in both Europe and the Pacific as well as ferrying planes from factories to points of embarkation left them woefully short. From 1942 to 1944 the Women Airforce Service Pilots served with the U.S. Army Air Forces working to fill that gap. Over 1,100 of the women flew 77 types of planes in nearly every type of domestic flying job that the USAAF needed to be done. These women fought for the chance to prove themselves as pilots and to serve their nation. They did not think of themselves as heroines - they were just pilots, doing their part for the war effort. Learn about the work they did during the war and decide for yourself.
