Assessment Initiatives in Undergraduate Academic Advising

Session Description

"Join me for an application of assessment as it relates to continuous improvement and best practices among academic advising staff at the University of North Texas Beginning with cultivating and fostering an environment conducive to assessment initiatives (mission, vision, values), I will take the audience through the steps to build"

Session Goals

"- To highlight academic advising as a growing profession by examining the intersection of counseling, auditing, and the changing landscape of student success. - To provide attendees with a basic framework to assess best practices and continuous improvement initiatives in academic advising. "

Full Description

"By utilizing academic advising theory (NACADA Core Competencies Model) as an underpinning model of assessment, this session poses the question, ""how can academic advising improve in order to better serve students?"", and moreover, ""how can our students excel in higher education as a result of meeting with their academic advisor?"". This presentation will follow my first steps in assessment and continuous improvement in a largely decentralized advising model as I embark on: (1) Defining UNT Advising's mission, vision, and values; (2) Identifying student learning outcomes and advisor process outcomes; (3) Reviewing initial survey results from a student climate survey and advisor needs survey; and (4) Cultivating and fostering an environment of sharing results.
