Full Description

The TCC NW Campus president, Dr. Zarina Blankenbaker, introduced the Campus vision, “Northwest Campus will be a nationally recognized campus of choice for academic excellence and lifelong learning to educate and empower our community.” In addition, she outlined eight Employee Success Commitments, and number four is Innovative: Take intelligent risks to transform student learning and promote employability through ongoing investigation and exploration.” With this tremendous charge, we felt empowered to make drastic changes to programs that were ok, but data showed that students had been in courses for far too long without earning high school equivalency certificates, without improving their English skills enough to get promotions at work or to enter college. With the use of date, observation, and the support from our dean of Humanities, the team worked—and continues to work, at finding what works best with our students. Innovative & transformative processes in the ESL/GED programs at the TCC NW Campus have elevated success and completion rates since September 2016! We threw out old assessments, explored new ones; collaborated with key campus services to create opportunities for students to easily transition into college; we hire with intention—only those who care about student success need apply!
