Petting Elephants: Facilitating Difficult Topics in the Classroom

Session Description

What happens when the “elephant in the room” is finally is acknowledged? This session is designed to engage and empower participants to facilitate transformative conversations about things people would rather not talk about, including race, gender, and class discrimination, without feeling powerless. Learn how to create a space where everyone has the experience of being heard while simultaneously building cultural competence and cultural humility.

Session Goals

Participants will learn best practices to prepare students to engage in conversations that may be challenging. Participants will learn how to leverage inclusive language effectively in the classroom. Participants will learn how to address microaggressions and non-inclusive language in the classroom.
