This presentation will describe concrete ways that Developmental Educators can inspire students to make full use DE classes to serve the community with Service-Learning projects, publish their papers, and win writing contests. Developmental Education classes can launch not only prepared but also empowered and inspired students into credit courses.

This presentation will cover strategies to galvanize Integrated Reading and Writing students with Service-Learning Projects, research, reading and writing with real-world applications, and creative writing projects that are publishable. The presenter will discuss ways to compel students toward success with unique research projects and opportunities to earn scholarship money that ultimately enhance DE and credit course retention rates.
