A CARE Team's Influence within an Ecosystem of Higher Education

Few would argue our country’s “ecosystem” has grown increasingly fragile. Intolerance for the views of others, Title IX, and incivility are challenges facing higher education. Consultation Assessment Resources Education Teams play a role in responding to these challenges. TCC CARE Teams provide proactive ways to address behaviors in our community.

Session Goals

To share best practices of a CARE/Behavioral Intervention Team. To share tools used to assess CARE/Behavioral Intervention Team referrals. To share data regarding the types of behaviors assessed and resources provided.

Full Description

Both the FBI and the United States Secret Service have reported that CARE Teams/Behavioral Intervention Teams are a best practice for educational institutions to utilize when identifying individuals who feel marginalized and may be a danger of acting out to harm themselves or others in our communities. The presenters will share how Tarrant County College CARE Teams assess reported behaviors and connect students to appropriate resources at our college and in the surrounding community. Additionally, the presenters will share data regarding the types of behaviors assessed and how a CARE Team intervention may lead to the retention of students. The presentation will end with an interactive discussion about ways a CARE Teams/Behavioral Intervention Teams work may provide a positive outcome for all involved individuals.
