Presented at: 2020 Instructional Innovation Conference

Active Learning in Introductory American Government

Session Description

"This session is designed to help faculty feel comfortable designing and deploying short active learning assignments within their own courses. By creating a presentation that can be given at conferences and workshops focused on pedagogy, faculty can develop their own internal efficacy regarding “active learning” and their own courses. Rather than getting stuck on the use of jargon, the presentations are designed to help faculty realize that they may already be using active learning in their own classes, learn how they can design active learning activities that can be completed within short time frames, and tailor the activities to their own needs. The ultimate goal of the session is to give faculty the tools to be able to create assignments they want and they like rather than have to use an “active learning” assignment that is not well-suited to their own pedagogical style or goals."

Session Goals

The ultimate goal of the session is to give faculty the tools to be able to create assignments they want and they like rather than have to use an “active learning” assignment that is not well-suited to their own pedagogical style or goals.
